HDMA ASN Exceptions Guidelines for the Drug Supply Chain Security Act

Published 2015

The Drug Supply Chain Security Act requires trading partners to pass Transaction Information, a Transaction History and the Transaction Statement when prescription drugs change ownership (as defined in the law). Most shipments arrive with no problems, and transaction data are transferred between trading partners without issue. However, exceptions will occasionally arise that must be handled before one trading partner may accept ownership of drug product from another trading partner. Prepared by the Track and Trace Work Group, in consultation with its Traceability Implementation Work Group, these guidelines offer HDMA’s interpretation of how trading partners might choose to address the exceptions that may arise when passing the information required by DSCSA.
