HDA Guidelines for Trading Partners on Downstream Product Actions
Developed by HDA’s Returns Task Force, these voluntary guidelines (last updated in 2007) provide insights into industry recall and withdrawal practices, downstream trading partner actions, and internal/external communications, based on current FDA guidance and industry best practices. The guidelines, applicable to all products, include information for trading partners to consider when calculating distributor costs associated with multilayered efforts to assist manufacturers in removing products from the supply chain in an efficient manner. Sample worksheets and approaches included in the guidelines use industry-wide, benchmarked data to help trading partners calculate possible distributor reimbursement for recalled merchandise in inventory and other recall processing expenses, such as customer returns, shipping and disposals and notifications to customers.
